CAREER OPPORTUNITY

 

First 5 Alameda County (F5AC) seeks a Director of Operations, Finance, & Technology (class spec: Director of Operations & Technology) to provide leadership and direction to all infrastructure and operations. Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Operations, Finance, & Technology will oversee multiple divisions and a budget of $4.2 million. The primary focus is to optimize operational and resource utilization effectiveness in accordance with the mission of the organization: In partnership with the community, we support a county-wide continuous prevention and early intervention system that promotes optimal health and development, narrows disparities, and improves the lives of children from birth to age five and their families.

As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, this individual must have strong collaboration and communication skills and will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief of Staff, Agency Directors, & Senior Leadership Team. The ideal candidate will have a background in change management and have an understanding of modern technological practices. They will have an in-depth knowledge of administrative analysis, information management, and planning and project management. Showing a positive attitude is integral for this position, as the Director will serve as a role model as expectations and work requirements shift. The Director will also exercise strategic and analytic skills to incorporate new information and trends for organizational planning.

THE JOB

The Director of Operations, Finance, & Technology will oversee teams who focus on the optimization and resource utilization of the organization, ensuring agency adherence to its mission. The Director will directly supervise finance, technology, facilities, and additional functions as operational needs require. They will work in partnership with human resources, program, planning, policy, and evaluation to ensure operations are supporting initiatives and organizational efforts while also collaborating with executive leadership to ensure F5AC remains fiscally sound. Along with the need for someone with a strong fiscal background, this individual should have some working knowledge of managing technology staff who work on web-based applications, office network systems, and electronic materials. The individual should also have a working knowledge of facilities management and operations. The Director will be analytically minded, initiating necessary changes in regulations, policies, or funding streams. The ideal candidate will be a strong project manager, working with their team to spearhead agency-level planning and decision making. F5AC is looking for someone who can use their background in financial and operational management to help scale an organization and achieve the next phase of growth and community impact.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate will have a background in operational management, ideally in a public or non-profit setting, with strong skills in financial management, IT strategy, and facility management. They will understand the importance of adaptability, as the duties of this role are often evolving. The next Director should be an advanced communicator, whether they are working with their team or presenting to key stakeholders. Being able to explain complex ideas in simplistic terms is an essential skill to have, as is demonstrating cultural awareness and sensitivity in a variety of situations. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced work environment, understanding that agency operations and work assignments may shift according to business needs. The successful candidate will value teamwork and build positive working relationships with a wide range of professionals and administrative employees. Strong organizational, process, and project management skills are important for this role since the Director must meet competing deadlines and priorities. Being a proactive leader is important while ensuring staff members are receiving the support and guidance they need to enhance the overall effectiveness of the organization. Successful candidates will be attentive to detail and have the business acumen to balance the delivery of programs against budget realities. Candidates will also need to work with internal departments to align the technology team with the business goals through its systems, processes, procedures, and program management.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be through one of the following Tracks:

  • Track 1: 11 years of full-time progressively responsible operations or technology experience, five years of which was in a Public or Non-Profit setting. At least four years of the relevant experience in a management and supervisory role, OR
  • Track 2: Bachelor’s degree and seven years full-time progressively responsible experience in operations or technology, preferably in a public agency or non-profit organization, OR
  • Track 3: Master’s degree and a minimum five years of full-time progressively responsible operations or technology experience in a public agency or non-profit organization.

Salary and Benefits 

The annual salary range is: $133,623– $180,391 annually DOE/DOQ. In addition, F5AC offers a comprehensive benefits package.
