The FirePoint Innovations Center at Wichita State University is looking for an experienced executive to lead FirePoint’s efforts in support of technology transfer and transition at the U.S. Army’s Aviation and Missile Center in Huntsville, AL, as well as at other National Laboratories.

Coupling experience with specialized business and technical capabilities, the Manager for Technology Transfer and Transition will directly engage with U.S. Army scientists, engineers, attorneys and managers, as well as university and industry partners, to: (i) identify, secure and protect intellectual property (IP) developed by U.S. Army laboratories; (ii) actively market cutting edge Army technologies to industry partners and small businesses, venture capitalists, and others to elicit interest in their licensing of Army technology; and (iii) rapidly establish licensing and other collaboration and partnering agreements that support and emphasize the rapid transfer and further development of U.S. Army research into applications that benefit the warfighter.

The ideal candidate for this job is energetic and driven, and has the ability to integrate, align, improve and expand technology transfer and IP licensing activities. The person in this role must be deeply knowledgeable and passionate about the value and societal impact of government funded research discoveries and innovations.

The position reports directly to the Executive Director at Firepoint and will be based in Wichita, KS. Some domestic travel is required. FirePoint is a department within the growing Industry and Defense Programs at Wichita State focused on identifying, aligning and exploiting applied research and development to enable the Army of the Future.

Access to EAR or ITAR controlled technologies is expected. Applicants must be eligible for employment under U.S. export control laws and must meet the requirement of being a “United States Citizen.”

Requirements

Master’s Degree in a STEM field, or combination of a bachelor’s degree in a stem field with a Master’s degree in business or law. Ten years related work technology transfer or licensing or technology business development experience and 5 years leading technology transfer initiatives in an academic or government laboratory setting.
